Weekly Dramas Review

Oh, man! This week saw another spring premiere, and all of them brought the drama! There were tears, there was suspense, and there was audible gasping. That’s good television. Let’s review, shall we?

9-1-1 Lone Star was back this week, and thank goodness for that! I don’t know how much longer I could have waited on that cliffhanger of Judd and Grace getting launched into that river. Instead of taking us right back to that scene, we first saw a young Judd and how he’s made some questionable decisions in his life, but then how he also turns himself around. Back in the car, Grace is up first realizing they are in big trouble. When Judd comes to, he explains he’ll just break the window and they can get out, but Grace reveals she’s stuck. Judd’s desperation to free Grace is heart-breaking and his promise to go with her is so sincere that all I know is I better have a love like that. Equally selfless is Grace, who continues to tell Judd to save himself. Of course, we’re left hanging a little bit longer while we go back in time to see how the couple met. Judd gets a brutal reminder of the past, and decides to call a religious crisis hotline of sorts, where of course he gets Grace on the other end. He repeatedly calls her, and the two really connect before one day she just quits the center. Fate brings them together later that same night though and history was made! Obviously, there was a rough patch in there, because otherwise you don’t have a very realistic relationship, but their bond is strong and so freaking cute. Back in the present, Judd is pretty beat up and Grace is in a coma, having been underwater for six minutes before help arrived. Luckily, she comes to pretty quickly and relatively unscathed. The pair get even more good news when they learn they’re expecting! This was perhaps my favorite episode of the entire series so far, I just love the chemistry between those two.

Next up was Big Sky, and luckily Jenny gets herself out of that very scary pickle with the aid of her gun, but strangely, middle brother John Wayne also helps her out. Sort of. He also leaves her at the cabin where Rosie got beat up. Elsewhere, Cassie is in an increasingly scary situation, but thank goodness she has her phone! I think if she didn’t, she might have ended up dead? Who’s to say, but it’s clear that local law enforcement is on the side of that crooked Kleinsasser family. Lindor uses some muscle to get Cassie out of that mess the next day, but talk about traumatizing! Speaking of those awful Kleinsassers, their family dynamic is so awful. Both Cheyenne and her mother are treated like second class citizens from patriarch, Horst, although John Wayne and Rand aren’t much better. At a big family dinner, including Blake, it’s revealed that John Wayne is going to get the ranch, which doesn’t seem to bother Blake, but Margaret is panicking because she’s knows with John Wayne in charge that nothing in her life is going to get better. There is still a lot of secrecy around this family, but one big reveal is that back in the day, Blake had to help bury someone Rand killed with a shovel. By the end of the episode, Blake’s guilt has finally bested him and he let’s John Wayne know that he’s going to tell authorities what happened, but not before Cheyenne watches from a distance as John Wayne takes the shovel and knocks Blake unconscious into the hole he just dug up. That’s how the episode ends, so let’s backtrack a little and see what’s going on with Ronald! He can’t resist stalking Jerrie, but I imagine Ronald’s face will be burned into her memory forever because she immediately recognizes him at the karaoke bar. Back at his home, it’s clear that his new girlfriend isn’t as stable as she initially appeared, but I still think it’s only a matter of time before the old Ronald gets the best of her.

Finally, a new episode of Prodigal Son rounded out my weekly dramas. While the season premiere and this episode were actually pretty fun, they still are just missing the mark for me. Regardless, I still enjoyed this episode, which saw Edrisa get some excellent one-liners and a bunch of screen time! Bright invites himself to the most recent crime scene as they try to find dismembered body parts in a large meat freezer/warehouse. Edrisa recognizes the emblem carved into the torso, and determines that her group of web-sleuths, the Killabusters have a very close connection to this murder. The Killabusters’ most recent focus has been on a man posting videos of viciously killing birds, so they were trying to get enough information on him for law enforcement to take him seriously. It was only a matter of time before “the Vulture” switched from animals to people. Several other Killabusters were in town to meet up with the murder victim, so it’s only natural that the killer is one of them. Thankfully they stop him before anyone else gets killed – especially Edrisa’s new love interest! Elsewhere in the episode, Jessica and Gil finally reconnect with a slow dance in a garage, but I’m here for it. Martin tries his best to seduce Dr. Capshaw again, which ultimately ends up working when she confides in him that she was basically obssesed with him in med school and he drove her to want to be the next best surgeon. Although it was hard to tell if a “boys club” pushed her out, or if she was just sloppy/bad at being a surgeon. She definitely breaks professional ethics by hooking up with Martin, but I can’t tell if she’s mentally deranged or actually attracted to him. Remains to be seen! Finally, Dani tries throughout the episode to break though to Bright about facing the trauma from last week’s death in the field that he experienced. At the end, Malcolm relents, but he lets slip Endicott’s name – uh oh! Who’s knows where that slip will lead, but it’ll be exciting I’m sure. Again, I’m a little bummed at the lack of the sociopath that is Ainsley. Why is she not a bigger part of this season?! Hopefully that changes soon.

Overall, I had a great time with these dramas this week! Hopefully next week can deliver equally good content.
