It’s been a while since my run with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, so I decided to tackle another long-running comedy that’s been on my bucket list for quite some time. And that show is Workaholics! I’ve seen a lot of things these guys have been in separately, so it was just a matter of time before I got to watch this show. Worth the wait for sure, and that’s only after ten episodes!
The general premise of the show follows three friends/roommates/co-workers, who are just overall alcoholics, drug abusers, and slackers at work. Obviously that combination is going to result in ridiculous shenanigans which mainly end up being awkward and hysterical.
The guys: Adam, Blake, Anders, all have some selfish tendencies that get them into trouble and sometimes causes animosity between the three of them, but by the end of the episode friendship always overcomes. In my opinion friendship is the main premise of the show. No matter what craziness they get into or what hurtful things are said, they are always their for each other.
Not too many consistent supporting characters crop up in these first ten episodes, but there are some brilliant cameo appearances. My favorites were Edward Barbanell (I love The Ringer) and Rebel Wilson. Perhaps it’s because the guest starred in my two favorite episodes of the season. “Checkpoint Gnarly” only just eeks out the creative opus of “Juggahos” for me. Both had me laughing out loud. If you know anything about the Insane Clown Posse then you’ll be on board, too.
The first two episodes were a little rocky, but that’s how I felt about Sunny, too. The rest of the season was really strong for me and I can’t wait to watch the other six seasons!
