If my experience with watching a long running comedy taught me anything is that as time goes on, the show typically gets better. I promise that is no exception for Workaholics. For my second season in about a week, this show has solidified it’s brand of comedy and doubled-down on the friendship aspect. For all of this, I approve.
Going from the first season into the second season was almost seamless. With shows that sometimes go a whole year in between seasons, this is quite a feat. Although, with as close of a relationship that guys have along with co-creator Kyle Newacheck, it’s no surprise that the show’s span is cohesive. Again, DeVine, Anderson, and Holms deliver on the chemistry and also the insane shenanigans of post-college slackers.
Just like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, this show always has me wondering how they get away with all of their crap, but also similarly, each episode seems to reset the havoc they’ve wreaked and they get to make mistakes all over again. That is definitely true for all the damage caused in the opening episode “Heist School” all the way down to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Roommates” and beyond. And just like I said about the first season, friendship triumphs everything else in their life. This is most obviously noted in the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Roommates” when they are all full-on arguing only to be stopped by the arrival of pizza. Then the beef is squashed almost entirely.
The season opener was definitely the strongest in the bunch, but I don’t know if any scene will beat Karl the drug dealer getting hit throat cut accidently with some scissors in the “Karl’s Wedding” episode. I blubbered with so much laughter that my family checked to see what it was all about (they also laughed hysterically). All in all, another strong outing from the lads of Workaholics, and I can’t wait to start season three!
