Workaholics Seasons 4 & 5

That’s right, I burned through two seasons of Workaholics so quickly that I just decided to write about them at the same time. I’ve only got two seasons remaining and I’m getting a little sad about it. These guys are hilarious together and I just feel like this has the longevity factor that It’s Always Sunny has. Oh, well. Take what I can get, right?

Anyways, the fourth and fifth seasons of this show aren’t unlike anything I’ve written about for the first three. It’s three dudes who live and work together, who cause an obscene amount of chaos, but friendship takes precedence over everything else. I will say, there were some notable guest stars like Ben Stiller and Jack Black making appearances, but not in a way that ruined the cadence of the show, which I appreciated.

If I’m being honest, after three really solid seasons, the fourth one let me down a little bit. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it was still hilarious, but not as many episodes stood out. Also, a majority of the season took place outside of the office, which while it’s happened in prior episodes, it wasn’t as constant as this season was. I really like the supporting characters antics, so I missed that during this season. With that being said, no one could argue the greatness of the season finale, “Friendship Anniversary,” where the guys celebrate their common law marriage status with arguing and food fights. “Three and a Half Men” was also solid comedy. Karl is like a spice, and he’s perfectly peppered throughout the show, but especially in that episode.

The fifth season rebounded nicely for me, and there were a trio of episodes that had me absolutely dying with laughter. “Speedo Racer,” “Menergy Crisis,” and “Gayborhood” are episodes I will definitely be re-watching in the future. “Speedo Racer” saw Ders try and win back some cool points at an high school alumni swim meet with some unexpected turns, while “Menergy Crisis” saw Blake try his hand at sabotage. Also, so many butts in that episode. Hysterical. “Gayborhood” centers on the guys maybe taking their relationship to the next level and dealing with emotions, but wonderful comedy.

I think almost anything could happen in this show and it still wouldn’t dull the true theme of friendship from it’s efforts, and that makes me happy. Also, the stuff these guys commit to have me somewhat impressed. Big ups to the Workaholic guys, and I can’t wait to watch the final two seasons!
