In an incredibly short amount of time I have managed to watch the entirety of Workaholics, and it was a fantastic ride. I don’t want to sound ungrateful for the time dedicated to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but I think I enjoyed Workaholics just a bit more. As I’m sure I’ve explained in a prior season’s review, these three dudes just seem more relatable. I attribute that to its office setting and their genuine friendship. Sure, the gang are friends, too, but these guys actually look out for each other. That’s the key difference. Anyways, I’m not going to get hung up on all that, because both really are great series and you should definitely take the time to watch them.
The final two seasons of Workaholics were just as strong as all the others and for that I am happy. Perhaps rivaling the greatness that was “Checkpoint Gnarly,” was an episode in the final season guest starring Dennis Quaid called, “Weed the People.” My sister genuinely asked if I was okay because that’s how much I was wheezing with laughter. Coming in very close behind were “Night at the Dudeseum” and “Monstalibooyah.” Both of those episodes saw the guys out of the office, first getting trapped in a museum, and then struggling to have a nice beach day at a timeshare. These were also great examples of friendship prevailing, and I love to see it. Another very excellent episode with the wonderful Cary Elwes guest starring was “The Most Dangerless Game,” where the guys thought they were being hunted by some rich people.
The final season also saw a couple pretty creative episodes. The first was “Bill & Tez’s Sexcellent Sexventure,” where most of the story was experienced through Bill’s dreams perspective. The finale episode also saw the guys get their dreams realized when they’re asked to party all day for a paycheck, which is followed with a reality series offer. Very metta. As far as series finales go, this wasn’t the best episode of the show by a long shot, but it was a fairly solid series end compared to others I’ve seen.
As soon as that last episode ended I was filled with a sense of sadness because this show was truly great and I know there won’t be any more episodes to watch. Luckily, there are bloopers, and interviews, plus all of them recently started a podcast called This is Important. So while the show may be over, they are far from being out of my life. Again, watch Workaholics if you haven’t already!
