Well people, it didn’t take me long to knock out the television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel Normal People, and for that I am proud! This will be a somewhat short review because honestly, this might have been one of the most pure adaptations I have ever seen. Having twelve episodes to tell the story definitely had a lot to do with that. No small nuance within the book was overlooked and I think that is a true achievement. I imagine Rooney is very happy with how this adaptation played out.

Concert Throwback: Cute is What We Aim For
It’s a mouthful of a band name, but my middle school emo self loved Cute is What We Aim For so very much. Sadly, the first time I had the chance to see them in concert was about 13 years after I started listening to them. But it was such a great show, and lead singer Shaant Hacikyan was so genuinely happy to meet the fans! When he found out how long I’d been listening to them he squeezed me in a hug so tight that I thought my smile was going to split my face in two. Then approximately five years later I got to see them again! He was just as kind this time around. It wouldn’t be a Cute is What We Aim For show if they didn’t play hits like “There’s a Class for This” and “Moan,” but they also manage to mix it up and play some acoustically, which really adds a special elements to the shows. The band has undergone several lineup changes and they’ve released new music occasionally, but I really hope I get the chance to see them again sooner rather than later. Either way, a real talent, and so impressive live!

I suppose more specifically, it is Johnny Stevens from Highly Suspect, but still. Despite sitting on this drawing for such a long time, I was really pleased with how it turned out. I even dabbled with different pen colors rather than black! Still Papermate though. Anyways, I decided to post this drawing because I’ve had some social media interactions with Johnny Stevens this week and it makes me really happy. Also, this could be an homage to the band since my sister and I were supposed to see them in April before COVID ruined everything fun in this life. Enjoy 🙂

Even though I somewhat predicted it, I was still no less surprised with how quickly my eyes consumed the last two seasons (currently available) of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. At first, I was a little bummed with how the last episode of the fourteenth season ended until I remembered that there’s more coming! When that “more” is coming is yet to be seen since 2020 has been such a crap-shoot. Either way, reminding myself that this is a show that’s still on the air put my mind at ease.

Well, next week is already the season finale of The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, and once again, I am mildly disappointed with all the creative liberties they’ve taken. I’ve come to the conclusion that having only eight episodes to tell the story had a lot to do with it, but still. Anyways, here we go.

New month means new movies for the weekend! Well, at least some of them were brand new, while others were old but new to me. It was an oddball mix this weekend, but I was pretty pleased with all of them. Let’s review!
Read moreBook Review: The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
I’ve finally taken my own advice again and read a book AFTER I’ve watched the movie it’s based on. Although in this instance, I don’t believe it really would have mattered. That’s because The Silence of the Lambs was filmed so long ago, that I feel like directors and writers took source material more seriously. I’ll get into that shortly. It struck me that since I’ve watched Hannibal, read Red Dragon, and watched The Silence of the Lambs that it only makes sense that I should read the book that film is based on. So I did!

Hot off the presses is my latest drawing of Robert Pattinson! Some of the inspiration for drawing him is due to the upcoming release of the novel, Midnight Sun, by Stephanie Meyer, but it’s also because of all of the other awesome stuff he’s been involved with! Seriously, Twilight has to be the worst movie in his filmography. If you really want to watch him shine I recommend, Little Ashes, Good Time, and Damsel. These are all so eclectic and just awesome! I’m also really looking forward to what’s coming next for him, both indie and blockbuster.
