Book Review: Call It What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer

I feel like I’ve been living in the young adult novel world for most of the summer, but truthfully I don’t mind it. They’re easy and most that I’ve picked are quite good, and that includes the latest, Call It What You Want written by Brigid Kemmerer.

The book switches perspectives between two high school piranhas, Meagan and Rob. They’re outcasts for totally different and very heavy reasons. Meagan is a smart and “good girl,” but she ruined her reputation by cheating on the SATs and getting everyone’s scores invalidated. Rob was a popular lacrosse star until his dad was caught embezzling and botched an attempted suicide. They are both struggling and sort of living in seclusion the best they can, but then get paired for a math project.

During that time the two really connect and start to have a better understanding of each other’s vastly different worlds. Of course a relationship forms, and that’s nice sometimes! There are also plenty of twists that made it a real page-turner for me. I felt Rob’s storyline was more interesting and could wait to get to them over Meagan’s, but through and through it was a great read!

I promise if you pick this up you won’t want to put it down! It’s also got me interested in picking up some of Kemmerer’s other works, so I’ll report back if I do.
