As a new Film Independent member, I get the scoop on movies now! Independent ones anyways, but those are my favorite kind! So you’ll see one of those, a documentary (unheard of!), and some other oddball new and old releases. This is also probably the last of the Christmas movies you’ll see me reviewing, so enjoy it while you can. Ha!

Another Round Film Review
As a die-hard fan of Hannibal, I have been obsessively trying to get my hands on Mads Mikkelsen’s latest film, Another Round. This Danish film has been getting lots of love and critical acclaim since its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. It’s also been entered as Demark’s entry into the 93rd Academy Awards!

To be fair, I have been watching new movies, but to clarify, this weekend I watched a few potential Oscar contenders, along with some other new movies! This is exciting stuff people! With the Oscars getting pushed back to April, there is more time for contenders to release, which means I have to wait until next year for a good chunk of them. That’s why it’s exciting to get to see some now!

After stuffing my face with turkey (quarantined at my house), I made sure I left tons of time over the holiday weekend to watch as many movies as I could manage! Here they are, neatly reviewed for you.

I think that title tells you what you’re about to read here, and unless you’ve been living under a rock, my reaction will not be all too different from the critics who have already seen these films. The other day, Netflix released Hillbilly Elegy, which was adapted from the memoir of the same name by J.D. Vance. The very next day, Hulu released the holiday romantic comedy, Happiest Season. Based on that very limited information, I’m sure your assumptions of what was good and what was bad is actually wrong!

Some new, some old, some new to me…a cornucopia of films this weekend! I’d say I’ve primed myself nicely for this holiday weekend’s viewing standards.

Unlike October, I have totally been slacking this month! Last week I didn’t watch a single film and this week I only got three in before my internet crapped out on me. A disappointing turn of events, but there is still time (and a holiday weekend) to catch up! Also, a fun fact about this trio of movies – they were all only an hour and a half! I love a good movie that can get their point across without dragging it past the two hour mark. It’s just not necessary sometimes and I think more filmmakers need to take note.

Since Halloween was this weekend, I tried to keep my film choices in that vain. And I would say for the most part I did that! They were creepy, gory, and at the very least mentioned the holiday.

The last of the film festivals (for now) ended last night with the Savannah Film Festival, and I managed to squeeze in a few more movies! I did get let down by one screening, but I suppose it was my fault. I bought a ticket for a movie that was only available in Georgia…where I do not live. Fail. Oh well, hopefully I get the chance to watch that film sooner than it is available to the mass public. So with that disappointment out of the way I got to watch two others that were very different from each other.

I know you think that I probably wouldn’t have much to watch this weekend given how many films I watched over the course of last week, but you’d be mistaken. With that being said, some are repeats and none are brand-spanking new, but that’s okay! I’ve got plenty more film festival content coming your way this week, so I’ll keep it brief to spare you. There are also a handful of season-appropriate films I watched, so check those out!
