Awards season is back with the Primetime Emmy Awards this coming Sunday, and even though it won’t look like it normally does, my heart is still so happy that it’s taking place! Lots of great shows are getting love, but I believe there are a small handful that are going to sweep all the categories they show up in. Who knows?! Maybe I will get proven wrong. We shall see. While we wait, below are my predictions of who will win and maybe who should win (if I disagree). Let’s roll!

The Morning Show Review
Alright, I have finally caved and subscribed to Apple+ in order to watch the last series I wanted to get to before the Emmys air this Sunday, The Morning Show. Look, when this show first got announced, I dug into my hipster way and refused to watch because of some of the cast. Yes, I am a big fan of Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass, but Jennifer Aniston and Resse Witherspoon are just slightly overrated in my opinion and that was enough to turn me off initially. That coupled with all the hype around the show also turned me off. Sometimes excitement about a show gets me excited about it, but sometimes it has the opposite effect on me. Go figure. Regardless of how I felt then, though, I really, really enjoyed The Morning Show and I’m glad I finally gave it a viewing!

Well, just like most other events in the world, this year’s first and only Shadowhunters convention got pushed until next year. In an effort to please the fans though, Jalmics, the organizer of the event, roped together an At Home convention for this past weekend! I will say, despite the event not taking place in person, this experience was pretty sweet! As an avid fan of the show, I was particularly pumped about it.

Alright, just starting this off by saying there will be SPOILERS about the fourth episode of The Boys‘ second season. There. You’ve been warned. I also wanted to let you all know that you technically don’t have to wait until Friday to watch the new episodes! Both this week and last, these gems were available on Thursday night, and not at midnight – several hours beforehand! So be impatient like me and get the up and up on everyone else.

The Boys are back and I am so excited to get back into the lives of these degenerates! Luckily, I had a much shorter wait than most of the fans who watched the first season when it was initially released, but that doesn’t mean I was any less anxious for new content! And even though the first three episodes are all that’s at our disposal, it was plenty to keep our minds occupied until this coming Friday.

The beat goes on with my attempt to watch more of the Emmy nominees before the actual Emmy Awards ceremony airs on September 20th. So with that, I landed on FX for Hulu’s nine part miniseries, Mrs. America. Talk about a star-studded affair! Even the small parts were played by well-known actors!

It took me longer than it should have, but I finally finished watching the miniseries adaptation of Celeste Ng’s novel, Little Fires Everywhere. Ultimately, I think it took me so long because I didn’t really find it all that enjoyable. Maybe it’s because I read the book first, or because I didn’t wait long enough in between reading it and watching it that it didn’t feel fresh or compelling? Those are both very valid reasons, and probably both true to some degree. Let’s dig in a little bit.

As I slowly roll through the Emmy nominated shows of 2020, I’ve managed to actually finish one! I decided to start with the Netflix miniseries created by the television genius that is Ryan Murphy, Hollywood. As I heard Darren Criss say in several interviews, this show “gives Hollywood the Hollywood treatment.” Indeed!

This is going to sound tired, I’m sure (especially since it’s been out for almost a year), but Unbelievable was unbelievable! Unbelievably good that it! Yes, you can take that corny admission for what it’s worth, but I’m not joking. Following the true story of two cops who try to take down a Washington State and Colorado serial rapist, this story was gripping! At this point I feel that the show has been on Netflix long enough that if you haven’t watched it yet you might not ever (excluding me, of course), so prepare yourself for spoilers!

Welp, the final two episodes of The Alienist: Angel of Darkness aired, and I’ve come away from it wholeheartedly disappointed. It honestly seemed like such a mess that I’m surprised anyone actually liked it. I know that I kept trying to trick myself this past month into thinking that it was still good despite the GLARING differences from the book, but I will tolerate it no longer. And that’s all because of the trash fire that was the final two episodes.
