Comedy Movie Review: Stuber

After Friday’s epic fail of a movie, I was hopeful that Stuber was going to be a better ride – and it was! The film follows Vic, a cop looking to take down the drug trafficker who gunned down his partner, and Stu, a part time Uber driver just looking to not rock the boat in his everyday life. That all changes when Vic gets in his car!

Vic has just come out of Lasik surgery when he learns that there is a lead on a drop where Teijo will be present. After attempting to get himself closer to the action and declaring “do you have permit for this hole?,” he hires Stu as his Uber driver. Stu thought he’d be rid of the brash Vic after one ride, but he gets roped in for the entire day!

This means Stu gets to see a lot of things he wouldn’t normally at his other job at a sporting goods store, or with his crush that he just co-signed a lease on a spin gym (wonderfully named “Spinster”). He instead gets to see things like a drug bust, accidentally shooting someone, and mowing down a dirty cop in his electric car.

The dialogue between Dave Bautista and Kumail Nangiani is hysterical throughout the entire film, and it was never short on action. I can see where nothing entirely new or original came from this, but I’m a sucker for films like this one and I laughed the entire time. That means it was good in my book! Go check it out if you’re a Guardians of the Galaxy or Silicon Valley.
