Monday Night Television

While some of my shows are circling the drain on their current season, others are just starting up, and I like that kind of mix on my Monday nights!

First up was Prodigal Son, which is in the last stretch of episodes, and I still feel on the fence about it. At this point, I don’t see the format of the show changing, although I don’t really feel it’s been all too consistent either. A lot of them have been a procedural, one and done episodes, while some plot have spanned several episodes. I’m more fond of an expanded arc, and it just seems more realistic. I understand with the one-off cases that more than just one day passes, but there’s just not enough depth. Before I get into a high level recap of this week’s adventure, I honestly want to say that if this show doesn’t get picked up for a second season, I won’t be mad about it.

Anyways, this week’s case involved really elaborated blogger moms, a husband getting stabbed, an undocumented au pair, an abusive ex, and baby-snatching! All in one hour! Aside from all the case drama, we learn TJ and his wife are expecting, Edrisa gets a little handsy with Malcolm (unintentionally), and since Malcolm’s now been dating Eve for two weeks, Ainsley digs deeper into her past. All this dredges up that Eve in fact does have a connection to the girl in the box: it’s her sister. Malcolm is both frustrated by her lies, but is also able to forgive her? This relationship is tough for me because she was in two episodes, almost got stabbed and ghosted him, and has now been back the last two episodes. There has been zero screen time to get invested in why they work, and I honestly hope they don’t. I suppose we’ll what all goes down in these next five episodes.

Back on for the second week was Roswell, New Mexico, and I continue to guilty-pleasure love this show. While everyone gets their fair amount of screen time, we get to see more of Rosa, which is a welcome deviation from the norm. We see her sneaking around town, posting graffiti, and, oh yeah, uncovering the truth about what happened with her death. She’s pissed, and the way she presents it to Liz, she has the right to be. And she also makes a great point, Max is the one who did this to her. Confused kid or not. I understand he’s tried to right his wrongs, but seeing it all together like that makes you realize how awful it all was. Rosa’s also decided that to quiet Max in her subconscious, she’s going to start using again. Great.

Elsewhere in the episode, Isobel decides that she doesn’t want to keep Noah’s child after going on a day-long retreat with her mother. Liz and Kyle are keeping the experiments going in a new, top-secret lab (thank you, Alex) to find a way to bring Max back. Michael decides he wants to learn more about his mother, but fully breaks up with Alex in the process. He chooses Maria for now, who is still trying to find her abducted mother. Based on the preview for next week it seems like she won’t be in the dark too much longer on all of this alien business. We’re still early into the season, but I can’t wait to see where it all goes from here. Keep ’em coming!
