MTV Video Music Awards Recap & Review

As a person who only tolerates top 40 music, I should really stop watching this program, because the VMAs are truly a top 40 showcase. With that being said, I forwarded through probably 80 percent of the show, stopping only to see the nominees and winners, along with the performances by Lizzo and part of the Jonas Brothers. I am always impressed with Lizzo’s pipes and stage movement, and I am always morbidly curious about the Jo-Bros.

The biggest winners of the night were Taylor Swift (excuse me while I roll my eyes heavily) and Billie Eilish, who I just find supremely overrated. Panic! At the Disco, whose older work I absolutely love, took home Best Rock Video which is maybe one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.

While I was buzzing through the ceremony, I did see some pretty bonkers performances, which is what this show is all about, so kudos to them for delivering on that aspect. I also have to give some credit to the very heavily lip-synced performance by Missy Elliot – still love her songs even if she wasn’t actually singing them.

Overall, if you’re not a top 40 fanatic, then skip this altogether, like I probably will next year.
