New Music – Singles Edition!

The year keeps ticking by, but artists keep putting out new music! Here’s the latest that caught my attention.

Blink 182
“DANCE WITH ME” – The video for this song is sublime! It reminds me so much of “First Date,” as far as how they look and what’s going on in the video. The first line of the song is also very reminiscent of old Blink. The verses and pre-chorus are really punk, but the chorus is something I could skip past, though it does probably sound a lot like of Blink’s old catalog. Again, I’ve never been a hardcore fan, so I really can’t tell if this is usual or what the fans want to hear. At this rate, I’m interested to hear what the rest of the album will deliver on at the end of the month. Stay tuned for a full review!

IDKHOW
“What Love?” – It’s been a hot, hot minute since there’s been new music from this band. Though now it is only down to one member in Dallas Weekes. I guess there was some not cool stuff going down with the drummer, but I am choosing to not look into it further because really, I don’t care. All I care about is if the music is good, and this new single definitely is! The band’s previous work had some old school vibes to it and this track is no different, though it leans more into a disco sound. It’s super groovy and very chill. This is a song I would put on if I was trying to wind down. There are some incredible high notes in this song, and then almost immediately balanced out with some insanely low vocals. Both are notes I never would have guessed Weekes could hit. Color me impressed.

Wet Leg
“C’est Comme Ca” – Evidently Paramore released a Re: This Is Why “covers” album, though most of the covers just sound like remixes. Which is really disappointing when that’s coming from Foals and The Linda Lindas! Thankfully, Wet Leg found the time to cover this single properly. It keeps the similar tune of the original song, but it’s a bit lower and stripped down in its sound. I also found it interesting that the pace was a bit quicker, which made for an interesting contrast with Rhian’s “bored” vocals. The band, touring members included, sounded like they had a lot of fun retooling this song, and this just makes me want more Wet Leg in the near future!

Bad Suns
“Astral Plans” – What a short turnaround time for new Bad Suns! Evidently they introduced this during their current tour and then dropped the official audio for the rest of us the other day! Straight away it has that classic sound I’ve come to associate with the band. They have unique guitar licks, groovy bass, and above all else, Christo Bowman’s vocals are one of a kind. He really helps set them apart, though really all the other elements really need to be in sync for the songs to work (just ask their album, Mystic Truth…). So far, the latest two songs I’ve heard have given me hope for a future record, which maybe isn’t that far off into the future? Who knows! I just know that I’ll be there when it does drop.

Jeff Satur
“Black Tie” – Well, well, well. If it isn’t the super attractive Jeff Satur putting out a new song? Yay for me! And, based on a few interviews I’ve heard here and there, this is the all English single he was talking about! It’ll likely be on his upcoming album, but I have no clue if this will be the only all-English track we get. For being born and raised in Thailand, his English really is quite exceptional. This song is for sure power pop, and his voice is really, really good, but there is still something about his music that isn’t quite connecting with me. I bet this song will gain a lot of popularity though, so who cares if I love it or not? I’ll still be keeping an ear out for new music, and maybe we’ll get that new album sooner rather than later!
