I’ll admit that I haven’t been keeping my ears open for much new music recently, but to be fair, I think it’s also been slow going for the last several months. I don’t know that 2024 will be as lucrative as 2023 in terms of new albums, but I’m hopeful. Anyway, here are a few new tracks that caught my eye recently.
Jeff Satur
“Ghost” – There’s no denying that he has talent, but I go back and forth on his songs. This, like most slower songs out there, just wasn’t for me. It’s a power ballad about letting go of someone you love completely because you know you’ll never get the real them in the end. The music video was kind of alluding to that message as well. I think. In it, Satur plays a working man happy with his wife, but it appears his wife actually belongs to Satur’s doppelgänger and he is just an experiment of sorts. She does help him escape and he goes willingly, knowing that if he stays, nothing will be like it once was. Though I wasn’t wild about this song, I am still looking forward to what a full album will sound like, and hopefully that’s in the near future!
Monsta X
“Love Killa” – What an interesting group! I came across these guys when I was looking at what concerts Veeps had going on and saw these handsome dudes. I thought the name was cool so I decided to check them out. Now, that just meant I picked one of their most viewed videos on Youtube, but I can tell you it was nothing like I was expecting. Leaning more towards R&B pop, the beat was cool and the vocals were pretty eclectic in style, tone, and delivery. The video was really high quality and after far too many more views I realized that they were actually paying homage to several different films! I clocked The Dark Knight, American Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs, and Fight Club – respect! One member also looked like he could ace as the lead of at least a dozen metal bands. Color me intrigued! I’m definitely interested to hear more, and I found out that they have a couple of fully English records. More to come!
IDKHOW
“Infatuation” – Even though this really sounds nothing like them at all, I couldn’t help but think of This Providence during the first minute of this new track. Maybe it just transported me back to that time, but I was happy with the way it made me feel. This isn’t as good as “What Love,” but it was a groovy falsetto ride and I can see it fitting in just right in the upcoming album’s track list. I think its release is just around the corner, so I’m excited to hear the rest of the record. This song also came with a video, so that’s how I found out Joywave participated on this track! Kind of neat how they’ll be going on tour together soon! The video itself is simple, but somehow creepy, but I think that’s exactly what was intended. Always something interesting from IDKHOW.
