New Singles in Music

More music for my ears – yay! Keep reading to learn about some new music from some of my favorite artists!

Foals
“Wake Me Up” – Ohhh this makes me so happy! Even though it’s only been a couple of years since their last full length (actually two full lengths), I was still pumped to see new music from these guys. Now operating as a three piece, (their bassist left to pursue a degree in economics – strange), they’re back with a song almost as infectious as “In Degrees.” Approximately three seconds into the song, I loved it. It is so upbeat with a quick tempo that makes you want to immediately get up and dance. I love Foals, so I hope this means a new record soon and hopefully a US tour!

Spoon
“The Hardest Cut” – I truly think of the few Spoon songs I know as a purely alternative rock band, but this new single I think edges them closer to the rock category. The guitar riffs were hard and it was paired with a really catchy drum beat. I really like lead singer Britt Daniel’s vocals, but there were a handful of moments in this track where I had to remind myself that I was listening to Spoon. He sounded so much like Johnny Stevens of Highly Suspect. I dig it. If you like any of Spoon’s prior work, definitely make sure this makes it to your ears.

The Wanted
“Colours” – This is perhaps not as catchy as their other new single, but again, I’ll take anything The Wanted wants to give me. There’s been a boy band void in my heart, and they’ve reunited to fill it. Bless. Once this song hit the chorus, it reminded me of all the classic sounding The Wanted songs. I’m waiting for my greatest hits album to arrive in the mail before I start spinning these new songs on repeat, but I have no doubt I will love them.

Coin
“Chapstick” – It’s been about five years since I really listened to a Coin track, but the Youtube algorithms presented me with this and so I listened. Almost instantly catchy. The initial guitar just jolted me back into the 90s, but it managed to stay present with some auto-tuned type vocals. The vocals definitely made me aware it was a Coin track and I’m glad they’ve reentered my rotation of alternative tracks. With that being said…don’t they know it’s a pandemic? I wouldn’t be tasting anybody’s Chapstick! (Just take my dad joke and be happy with it).

Bad Omens
“Death of Peace of Mind” – I promised my sister I’d listen to this new song by one of her favorite bands, so I figured I might as well share my opinion of it with you all. I don’t actively listen to them, but straight away this isn’t like anything else I had ever heard from them. While the instrumentals remained heavy, a majority of the vocals were honestly beautiful. Of course it wouldn’t quite be a metal song by Bad Omens if there was no screaming, but it was sparse in the grand scheme of things. The video had an almost cinematic quality, but honestly so did the song. If you’re just trying to get into some heavier stuff, I’d say add this to your playlist.
