A couple of weeks ago, FX premiered an excellent British drama called Black Narcissus, and I was hooked from the start. I was actually quite sad that it was only three parts. In an interesting move on FX’s part, all three episodes aired back to back. I didn’t watch these live, so it had no impact on me, but I still thought it was an interesting move.

Defending Jacob Miniseries Review
I keep chugging along through shows with my new Apple+ subscription, and next on my list was a show I was really excited about when I first saw an advertisement for it, Defending Jacob. Sure, it’s got everyone’s favorite Captain America, Chris Evans, and Downton Abbey‘s Michelle Dockery, but the premise just sounded so intriguing that I was going to watch it regardless of its leads.

Yes, I’ve finally jumped onto the hype wagon and decided to read Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. And yes, part of this had to do with the adaptation on Hulu and the fact that it racked up some Emmy nominations. I haven’t learned my lesson from The Alienist though, and decided to read the book before watching. I’m sure there will be disappointments, but hopefully not that much has changed in this adaptation.

As I just wrote about the book, the second season of The Alienist, is finally gracing our televisions after almost two years. This season, based off of Caleb Carr’s novel, is being called The Alienist: The Angel of Darkness, and is to follow the events detailed in that book. Look, after a little over a year I was getting nervous that this second season was never going to happen, but I understand that with the level of detail in the show it is necessary to have an appropriate amount of time to complete. Still, I am nervous that we may not get another season after this. Too soon to tell, I suppose.

After nearly two years, TNT finally premiered the second season of The Alienist, which is based off of Caleb Carr’s second novel in the Dr. Kreizler series, The Angel of Darkness. Rather than wait to read this novel, I decided to get the jump on the series and read the book first! This was no small feat by the way. Clocking in at over 600 pages, and with a divine amount of detail, this book took me longer than the average to crank out, but I managed to do so just a day before the second season premiere! As expected, the novel was fantastic. Everything depicted with such vivid detail and a fine amount of humor laced within the serious context of the story.

I am fully aware that the number of movies I watched this weekend is in fact still above average compared to almost everyone I know. But two movies is almost pathetic! At least by my standards, and especially since I watched 25 movies last month. Oh well, it’s a slow start but I don’t doubt I’ll have a strong finish (even if it is getting nicer out). Now, there were onlt two movies, but they were fairly strong choices!

Aside from the two thrillers I saw in theaters this weekend, I also managed to squeeze in two other movies from my streaming services. Let’s review!

The penultimate episode of Shadowhunters, “City of Glass,” aired last night and it was action-packed, and a beautiful set-up for the two and a half hour series finale next week!
