You know, I’ve seen Motion City Soundtrack a number of times over the years, so when I saw a Commit This to Memory 15th anniversary tour, I was actually going to skip out. Firstly, it was scheduled in 2020, then got moved to the middle of winter in Ohio, but then the stars aligned and it got moved again and I saw them at Riot Fest. They were one of the best sets I saw that weekend and it made me remember how freaking awesome they are. So yeah, when I saw the show was approaching, I snatched up tickets.

New Singles!
There’s been a bunch of new music by an odd bunch of bands and artists. Some of these you’ll realize I’m embarrassingly behind on, but you get to read my quick take on them anyways. Let’s go!
Read moreFan Art Friday: My Chemical Romance
In a sick twist, Riot Fest and Life is Beautiful have ruined my life by making me choose between seeing My Chemical Romance and Arctic Monkeys on the same day in September. I was so desperate I threw out an Instagram poll! But, the people have spoken, and I ultimately agree with them, that I need to go back to Riot Fest to catch My Chemical Romance. Now, a big reason I agree with this is because I know for a fact a new Arctic Monkeys album is coming, and with that, likely a North American tour. So, I could catch them in the (hopefully) near future. And while My Chemical Romance have apparently been regrouped since 2017, I have heard hind nor hare that new music is coming from them. Why risk never seeing them if I don’t have to? Anyway, all of that for you to enjoy an old ass drawing I did of the band.

Not much time has passed since I listened to Machine Gun Kelly’s first pop-punk effort, Tickets to My Downfall, but that’s just because I dropped the ball. Now that his companion album, Mainstream Sellout, is out in the world, I won’t be making the same mistake twice.

It’s been a hot minute, but I knew that when Underoath put tickets on sale for a tour I was getting a ticket. Pleasantly, the band’s stop in my city came in plenty of time for me to love their latest album, Voyeurist. This show though, was filled with songs from all over their career which made it a really fun show to be at.

My middle school self continues to thrive this year! Just like Scary Kids Scaring Kids graced me with an anniversary tour last month, emo stalwarts, Armor for Sleep have followed suit. Now, the 15 year anniversary of their first major-label debut, What to Do When You Are Dead, was meant to happen last year but COVID had other plans. No worries! It worked out even better for me this year!

Like I said last week, concerts are back baby! And I for one could not be more excited about it. Actually, the crowd at this show seemed inclined to agree. What better way to get fully back into the swing of concert-going then seeing emo mega-stars Hawthorne Heights for about the tenth time.
Read moreAlbum Review: girlfriends
It seems I had missed the boat on the 2020 release, but I’m all caught up now, and fellow emos and punks of the early 2000s listen up because girlfriends is a band you need to listen to! In fact, it should be mandatory listening! If this is the start of the new wave of emo and punk bands then I’m all for it.
Read moreThe Used – Heartwork Album Review
Th Used’s latest release, Heartwork, was an immense improvement from the train wreck that was The 1975’s latest record, so that’s a great place to be. It also is sort of a return to form for the band after the more experimental turn they took on The Canyon. Not that I disliked that album at all, but it’s a nice dose of nostalgia when a band from your formative years of music go back to the old style.

My next livestream concert experience isn’t until next week, so for now we all get to reminisce about the many times I’ve seen 2000’s emo band Motion City Soundtrack. I know someone is likely to read this and tell me they are pop punk, but you’re wrong. They are all sorts of emotional and have toured with the most emo band on this planet (Hawthorne Heights), therefore they are also emo.
