I first read Madeline Miller’s debut novel, The Song of Achilles, back in late 2019. I was immediately taken with it, but like most things I don’t usually revisit them so soon. A little while ago I found my gaze landing on my copy of the book more and more, but my trip to Greece last month finally convinced me I needed to read this epic romance again!

Weekend Movie Review
I got a little lazy for the last full weekend of August, but there were some decent picks.

I gotta say, I haven’t been totally nailing the young adult selections recently. The Temperature of Me and You by Brian Zepka just left me feeling lukewarm (pun intended).

Even though I’m sure I would have watched some films being shown at this year’s Frameline Festival, it definitely helped that I won a survey last year and earned myself a gold membership. But, when you’re tasked with some time off and no big trip planned, you make your own fun.

Well, turns out I was more busy last week than I had anticipated, so it looks like you guys are going to get stuck with another standard review from me. August has been turning out to be a pretty weak month of movies. Not necessarily by quality, but by quantity – and I want both! Regardless, here’s what made the cut this weekend.

Sadly, I’ve only got one movie to report back to you all on from this weekend. As you saw, I was busy doing other things (a festival!) and then I just felt like spending time with a good show. After what seemed like a lifetime, I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my local theaters with Joe Bell on their list of films for the weekend, so I jumped at the opportunity to go see it.
