New music has felt like it’s coming at me in an onslaught, but I am certainly not complaining! Especially coming off the slow year that was 2020. What makes me even more happy is that it’s rock! I love rock, I miss rock, I need rock. And truth be told, these singles all rocked!

New singles have been dropping this early this year and I am so excited! And even better, by some of my favorite bands who have been MIA for a few years. As if 2020 hadn’t sucked enough all on its own, it didn’t really help that not a lot of music seemed to get released. As of now, I think that’s all about to change! At least for me, anyway! In pretty quick succession, the band released a couple of singles, performed on SNL and at Joe Biden’s inauguration, and then promptly dropped a new album’s worth of songs on us all. Oh, yeah, they also got their name on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voting list this year! Quite a busy time for the band who have managed to make the best of a shitty situation. Th Used’s latest release, Heartwork, was an immense improvement from the train wreck that was The 1975’s latest record, so that’s a great place to be. It also is sort of a return to form for the band after the more experimental turn they took on The Canyon. Not that I disliked that album at all, but it’s a nice dose of nostalgia when a band from your formative years of music go back to the old style.

Alright, I’m not going to lie, I bought Haim’s third full-length album solely based on their performance of “3 A.M.” on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Yes, it was slightly subdued and a little quiet, but something about it just clicked with me and for whatever reason that was the only convincing I needed. I have been a Haim fan since the beginning, but their sophomore album was a supreme disappointment to me. That, and they were touring with Taylor Swift. Pass. But this rock trio of sisters have managed to redeem themselves in my eyes!
