After Riley Sager’s abysmal The House Across the Lake, I kind of have trust issues with him, though his last book and the latest, Middle of the Night, have him squarely back in the same camp as before. Actually, I’d like to think that Sager was able to get just a little bit of the supernatural shoe-horned in here. A compromise I can live with.

Book Review: The Only One Left by Riley Sager
I had the great honor of meeting the great Riley Sager, one of my favorite authors, at the beginning of the month where he was promoting his new book, The Only One Left.

New Riley Sager!! I’d be so happy if this guy manages to pump out a new book every year, mainly because they’ve all been thoroughly enjoyable. And honestly, I’m a little surprised I’m saying that about his newest release, The House Across the Lake, but you’ll just have to keep reading to find out why. And on that note, just know there are some SPOILERS ahead.

With so many movies, I figured I’d split up all the other rad things I watched, read, and listened to this past year!

Just when I thought his books couldn’t get any better, Riley Sager goes ahead and publishes this wonder, Survive the Night! Of his five novels, this one cemented itself as my favorite within the first chapter! It’s a thriller, takes place in the year I was born, the lead character is headed back to her hometown which is dangerously close to where I’m from, and she’s obsessed with movies!

For some extremely strange reason, I did not read Riley Sager’s latest novel, Home Before Dark, the day it came out in June! What’s wrong with me?! I guess it’s better late than never. Just like all of his other efforts, this thriller was very satisfying. There were so many twists! I feel like I’ve been ripping through books recently, and I’m not mad about it! Especially when my friend let me borrow newly released Lock Every Door by Riley Sager. After his prior two novels, Final Girls and The Last Time I Lied, I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this book! And let me tell you, it was worth the wait. Compared to his other two outings, this one sounded the least like the other two. Yes, it was told from a female’s perspective, but the tone and cadence reminded me more of Ruth Ware’s The Death of Mrs. Westaway.

Hot off the heels of reading Final Girls by Riley Sager, I decided to read his next novel, The Last Time I Lied. Similar in cadence and told again from the female perspective, I really enjoyed this work, too!

The other day I finished up the thriller, Final Girls, written by Riley Sager, and the long and short of it was that I loved it! Just the title alone had me hooked. It immediately made me think of the 2015 movie Final Girl starring Abigail Breslin, although I knew they wouldn’t be the same. But still, cinematic quality title for sure.
