I had the great honor of meeting the great Riley Sager, one of my favorite authors, at the beginning of the month where he was promoting his new book, The Only One Left.

Tribeca Film Festival (at Home) 2023
It took some back brain searching, but I do remember the Tribeca Film Festival having a rather disappointing At Home section last year. This year’s offerings are slightly more robust, and there were some gems to be had. Be on the lookout for these films later this year.

Almost all of this weekend’s viewings were winners.

It’s that time of year again! Even though the Sundance Film Festival is finally taking place in person again, I am thankful that they’ve kept an online component. Sure, a lot of the films in the Premieres category weren’t available for online viewers, but I still managed to stuff my schedule with nine options for one weekend. I even found something worthwhile to get an Explorer pass this year! Take a look at all the treasures from the festival I got to enjoy (mostly).

I wish there would have been more time for movies this weekend, but I’ve got a week full of Sundance features coming up, so I suppose I’ll make up for it. While there were a couple new titles this weekend, I went for some re-watches, as well. I know, who has time for that?! Well, sometimes I make time.

Well, geez. I guess I feel kind of honored that I finally got off the hold list for this wildly popular novel. To my surprise, Colleen Hoover usually writes romance novels, but tried her hand at suspense with Verity. Good for her!

What a multi-faceted web this mystery/thriller was?! Turns out Reese Witherspoon knows a thing or two about suspense novels. In Lucy Foley’s The Guest List, a group of people arrive at a very small Irish island in the middle of nowhere for, you guessed it, a wedding. Now of course there are rumors that this abandoned island is haunted, but most of the wedding party is just being haunted by their past. However, the past is both sad and violent

What can I say? I’ve been somewhat enthralled with Shirley Jackson this year and I have no reasons why! Perhaps I’ve just really been in the mood for some spooky stuff. It’s been a while, but I did watch the film adaptation of We Have Always Lived in the Castle that starred Taissa Farmiga, Alexandra Daddario, Sebastian Stan, and Crispin Glover last year. It was a really interesting film, so I’ve been eager to compare how it stacked up against its source material.
