The Weekend in Movies

This weekend I managed to watch some truly “excellent” movie choices, as well as venture back into the theaters. I only chose to wade back into that reality because I knew that (and was correct that) my local theater would have only 0-5 people in attendance. Regardless, I kept my mask on the whole time and made sure to steer clear of any other people. Overall, it was an unexpectedly fulfilling weekend with some truly bizarre films.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure – As a somewhat newly minted Keanu Reeves fan, it’s not really a surprise that I hadn’t seen this cult hit from two years before I existed in the world. But it was an excellent adventure, for sure. Dumb humor, so if that’s not your bag then definitely skip it.

Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey – Still playing these goofs two years later didn’t make it any less fun, and I think I will always laugh at the air guitar accompanied by real guitar not matter what. Even more sci-fi ensues, and Death was just delightful.

The New Mutants – After about two full years after first seeing the poster for this film in my local theater, it has finally reached the masses! Look, it was good, but something left me feeling slightly unsatisfied. I think a lot of it has to do with the sadness I feel about probably not getting the rest of the trilogy (thanks for nothing, Disney). I’d say if you like the other X-Men installments, then give this film a go.

Unhinged – Russell Crowe certainly lives up to the title of the film! Good grief! This took road rage to a whole new level, and it honestly had me thinking twice about any future bouts I may have.

Get Duked! – My favorite film of the weekend by a landslide, was this little oddball horror-comedy, which follows four teens as they embark out in the wilderness of the Scottish Highlands to earn their Duke of Edinburgh award. Almost as soon as it starts, the boys ensue in all sorts of shenanigans as they try and out-run certain death. Seriously go and stream this! It’s totally unique and has an amazing soundtrack to boot! Then, go check out Run the Jewels’ latest video for even more insanity!

The Covenant – It may be old and it may be a little corny, but I still really enjoyed this supernatural film about some college aged witches coming into their powers. If anything, the cast alone should get you to watch, especially all of you Sebastian Stan fans out there.
