Wallows Concert Review

You know, back when I bought my ticket to see Wallows, I think I did so reluctantly. Their first album was kind of a flop in my eyes, but they’ve had a bunch of really catchy songs and EPs since then. When they recently released their sophomore effort, Tell Me That It’s Over, I was finally convinced that I made the right choice. And having come back from the concert, I can confirm that I did!

But man oh man, was I not expecting the crowd at this show. I always kind of hate bands that feature actors, because you just never know how genuine that fandom is, but I can at least tell you that these people appeared to be having the time of their lives. One girl seated in front of me danced and jumped around non-stop. In fact, her boyfriend was recording her on his phone rather than Wallows. That’s love…or entertainment. Regardless, it was also clear that the band was having just as much fun as the crowd. Those two things combined equals a successful show in my eyes.

The opening band, Spill Tab, was pretty rough in my opinion, but luckily they didn’t play for too long. When Wallows hit the stage, they opened with the upbeat lead single, “I Don’t Want to Talk.” From there, the songs meandered all around from there extensive catalog, but a lot was being played from their latest album. That means I got to hear “Hurts Me” and “At the End of the Day!” Can I just say also, that these guys sounded awesome?! Sure, there’s the core members, but their touring band also rocked pretty hard. Dylan, Braeden, and Cole all sounded pretty great vocally, and I really enjoyed Cole and Dylan switching roles for the song “Quarterback.”

Overall, I don’t really have anything bad to say about this show. I’m also really glad I got to see them now, because I imagine their star is only going to rise higher and higher, so it will be hard to see them in a smaller crowd. Anyway, if you get the chance, go check these dudes out!
