Weekend Movie Marathon

I’ve had another few days off, and the weather hasn’t been all that great, so what better way to spend my than watching a butt load of movies?! There’s not, I promise. This time I chose to enjoy both new and old films, some of which I’ve already seen and some that are old, but new to me. Catch a quick summary below!

Come to Daddy – The title makes it sound more inappropriate than it was, I swear! This horror-comedy, starring Elijah Wood as a spoiled man child goes to visit his father for the first time since he was five in the middle of nowhere. His dad is a serious weirdo, but it turns out…it’s not his real dad! Hilarity and some some graphic violence ensue. Quite enjoyable!

The Babysitter – Another horror-comedy for me, but this one is courtesy of Netflix. Twelve-year-old Cole is getting babysat by super hot and really fun Bea, who after Cole goes to bed decides to spy on her and her friends, discovers she’s a part of some demonic cult. They need the blood of an innocent, and Cole’s found out to much, so it’s a chase and a blood-bath to the very end. Really fun with a rather impressive cast!

Smokin’ Aces – Like I said, this is one of those old movies that’s new to me. I couldn’t believe the amount of people in this action comedy – big ups to Chris Pine as a neo-Nazi hillbilly. It’s all brute force violence and I love that kind of action film! There’s double-crossing all around, and in general it’s a great time. On par with RocknRolla and The Gentlemen if that’s your style.

Ready or Not – This movie came out at the end of 2019, but seeing Samara Weaving in The Babysitter inspired me to watch this again. Other than the last five minutes which were mildly disappointing, this film is such a fun, dark, and bloody take on the kids classic game of hide and seek. You may never want to play again, though.

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot – Having never seen a single other film in the View Askewniverse, I was worried that this movie might not resonate with me, but comedy is comedy, and the amount of famous friends that Kevin Smith has totally made this a winner for me. He also made this film as meta as humanly possible. I love that kind of stuff! Now I will say, despite having not seen any films like Clerks or Dogma, doesn’t mean I don’t read about all of them in my spare time. I could still keep up, but if you haven’t got a clue, then this might not be your bag.

Free Fire – This was my favorite movie to come out of 2017 and for good reason! It features an all-star cast in a non-stop gun fight. Way more gritty than a John Wick film, and it takes place in the 70s, so you are bound to visually enjoy this. All of that shooting is the result of an arms trade gone wrong and mishap at a bar the night before. Boys are so dumb and this movie is brilliant!

Hot Rod – I mean, come on. Is a movie really your all-time favorite if you don’t at least watch it once a year? Hot Rod is my ultimate favorite film because it is so ridiculously stupid and fun. How could something not be great when it features a bunch of SNL giants and current-day comedy geniuses?! Please, for all things good in this world, watch this, so my sister and I have someone else to quote this with.
