Weekly Drama Review

We’re nearing the end here folks! Especially now that your typical fall shows are coming back in full force over the next couple of weeks. In any case, we’ll see the end of the fifth season of Animal Kingdom, while Roswell, New Mexico is going to hold on for a few more. Let’s get into what went down this week, though!

First on Animal Kingdom, now that Livengood is taken care of, Deran wants his bar opened back up, so to ease into it he has a party offering free booze but selling tacos instead. Sneaky but smart. Meanwhile, Craig’s drug habit has reached its peak with both Pope and Frankie calling him out separately. By the end of the episode, you see him resisting buying off of some local goof, but I don’t think his sobriety will last long enough to get their big, and very risky, job done. Did I mention the job is super risky? It looks like a huge undertaking, especially when we see Deran and J scoping it out. Firstly, they’re going to have to do it during the day and secondly…just everything?! Frankie is getting antsy, and then pissed, when she figures out they risked her money when first trying to get some information on the job. Regardless, the Codys still have the confidence to do the job, but should they? Who knows. By the end of the episode though, more FBI agents show up a Deran’s bar, but he plays the fool in regards to Livengood’s death. Instead, he spills some details on what’s really going on with Adrian to his co-worker. Makes you think maybe he’s an informant, but I really don’t know. Also, something smart the Codys’ did this week was cut things off with Chadwick. I have a feeling he’ll cause problems for them in the future though. Whether that’s next week or next season remains to be seen. And let’s see, what else? Oh yeah, Pope tells J that Pete didn’t flush their coke! J’s face was priceless.

In the flashbacks, Smurf seems to be thriving after her first kill, but rightfully Jake is concerned for her kids, whereas Smurf thinks they’re fine because Pope is “fine.” Julia probably has a more natural reaction to that violence, and it seems to have scared her for life when J reveals in present day that his mom never kept guns in the house. Whoops. But anyway, now that Smurf has Max out of the way, naturally, she goes to rob his place. She makes out though with not only guns and lots of cash, but also his book of contacts! Smurf explains to Jake and Manny that she’ll get their business because she’ll cut them in to profit on jobs rather than have them owe her like Max did. I mean, based on her empire up until last season, it’s a plan that seems to play dividends! I’m starting to lose sight of how these flashbacks play into the present now, but perhaps it’s just got something to do with Pope? At this point that’s all I’ve got.

Now, this week on Roswell, New Mexico, Liz spends most of the episode teamed up with Max to find her tapes so she can take what she learned about sound frequencies and apply that to what she’s tried in the past to split Max’s connection with Jones. Meanwhile, Isobel, Michael, and Alex all try to get Dallas to realize he is an alien. Because apparently, he thinks his special ability of being able to hear people’s thoughts was a gift from God. Not if you’re living in Roswell! Isobel tries to “break into” his mind, but it’s ultimately Michael who is able to make a personal connection with him. After reading Dallas’ file he realizes they grew up in almost the exact same way, which left Michael quite emotionally damaged. It took some convincing from Alex, but Michael eventually relented and was able to convince Dallas to trust them. With this, they were able to unleash Dallas onto the Lockhart machine which ended up revealing the information that Jones has been looking for all along. After his interaction with the Lockhart machine, Kyle let’s Dallas know that he’ll be there to help him try and heal his mind, while Dallas reveals that he may have to kill Max if they can’t stop Jones. Well, like, no duh. Kyle still looks so shocked though haha!

The biggest shock of the episode came with the rat race between Heath and Jones and Max and Liz trying to find Liz’s tapes. Unfortunately, whatever advantage team good guys had over Jones about the sound frequencies is pretty much a moot point by the end of the episode. We realize shockingly late just like Liz that Jones is who Liz is confiding in and he essentially takes her hostage. Looks like Jones is going to get what he’s been looking for pretty quick. At least at this point what Dallas learned is still a mystery since Liz wasn’t present when all that alien-ness went down. Obviously that’s our cliffhanger for next week, and Michael might be causing more problems because while Max calls him for help he’s too busy getting it on with Alex! Steamy, but frustrating! At this point I think Dallas is good, but he strikes me as someone who could switch allegiances even though he’s a part of the “triad” with Michael and Isobel. I hope not, but one can’t be too sure these days.

All in all, some good action this week and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next week’s Animal Kingdom season finale! Will there be a main character death again? Doubtful. Especially since they just killed off Smurf last season. Well, that and everyone posted from the set of the sixth season on that cast. Regardless, I think that job is going to go poorly and Frankie will likely pay the price. As far as Roswell goes, I bet Liz is a hostage for the entire episode, but I imagine the entire pod-squad will be looking for her. I hope we narrow in on the most central conflict for the last several episodes of that season. Until next week!
