While it’s been a relatively short time since I’ve read André Aciman’s novel Call Me By Your Name, I couldn’t get my hands on its sequel, Find Me, fast enough! Written in as beautiful a prose as the initial outing from twelve years ago, this read was smooth as butter.

Book Review: The Alienist
This is the slowest I’ve read something in quite a long time, but based on how quickly I was going through novels the last few months, this was a nice reprieve. After watching TNT’s The Alienist in 2018, I learned for the first time a few months ago that it was based on the book of the same name! So I headed to my local library and picked that puppy up!

A few weeks back, I finished one of the best books I’ve ever read: The Song of Achilles written by Madeline Miller. This book tells the tale of Achilles but is told through the eyes of Patroclus and with a slightly more romantic edge than what was detailed in Homer’s Iliad.

September is turning out to be a lot busier than I anticipated! All I’ve really managed to do is read, which is good, because fall TV is gearing up next week! With that, I got my hands on the latest Girl With the Dragon Tattoo novel by David Lagercrantz, who took over for Stieg Larsson, The Girl Who Lived Twice.

I’m sure I said this a few posts back, but I feel like I’ve been reading like a fiend these past couple months, and it continues with The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware! I was a huge fan of her first novel, In a Dark, Dark Wood, so I’m always excited to see what she’s got next. Earlier this year I read her latest installment, The Death of Mrs. Westaway, and that sucker stuck with me. Needless to say, I was very surprised when a new novel dropped just a few months after finishing that up – but it was a happy surprise!

I feel like I’ve been ripping through books recently, and I’m not mad about it! Especially when my friend let me borrow newly released Lock Every Door by Riley Sager. After his prior two novels, Final Girls and The Last Time I Lied, I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this book! And let me tell you, it was worth the wait. Compared to his other two outings, this one sounded the least like the other two. Yes, it was told from a female’s perspective, but the tone and cadence reminded me more of Ruth Ware’s The Death of Mrs. Westaway.

I feel like I’ve been living in the young adult novel world for most of the summer, but truthfully I don’t mind it. They’re easy and most that I’ve picked are quite good, and that includes the latest, Call It What You Want written by Brigid Kemmerer.

I was a super champ and finished another book in a relatively short amount of time (for me)! After the If I Run trilogy, I decided to stick with the high stakes running and picked up No Exit by Taylor Adams. Even though the cover art gave away that this book took place during the dead of winter, it was a refreshing surprise as I read it by the pool during a humid, 90-plus degree weekend!
Read moreBook Trilogy Review: If I Run by Terri Blackstock
In the past month, I’ve managed to get back into the swing of reading (by the pool anyways), and have finished Terri Blackstock’s If I Run trilogy. I bought the first novel for cheap at a bookstore, and I thought it was pretty intriguing and not a super taxing read, so I decided to continue on. Truthfully, when I looked up Terri Blackstock to see what the other novels were called, I was surprised to discover that she is a Christian author, mainly because faith was discussed so little throughout the first book.

Over the weekend, I finally finished Hidden Bodies, the sequel to You, by Caroline Kepnes. I’d been putting off this book for a while mainly because I read the book very shortly after finishing the television series after it originally aired on Lifetime. I just felt like I wanted to take a breather before jumping back into the world of Joe. Based on how season one of the show ended verses how the book ended, I do wonder if the second season will follow Hidden Bodies plot at all.
