Spooky Season Movie Review

It’s crazy to think we only have one week of October left, but here we are. Anyways, I’ve tried to make time for scary movies this month, so here’s what made the cut. (And there will be more to come next week!).

Halloween Ends – Wow. What a total disappointment the final film in the rebooted Halloween franchise was. I know that Laurie got her showdown in the 2018 iteration, but the fact of the matter is that both of them are still alive. So why are we spending so much time with her granddaughter and her new, possibly possessed, boyfriend? The two of them are totally ridiculous, and while Laurie might have gotten her revenge in the end, the ride there was a pretty pointless one. Although, the argument could be made that just because you get rid of one monster, doesn’t mean there aren’t others out there. Still, a let down.

Werewolf by Night – I don’t know if you could consider fifty minutes a movie, so perhaps we’ll call this horror entry from Marvel a “special.” In it, a group of monster hunters gather to see who will inherit the bloodstone. This stone is precious because it basically makes them unbeatable against the monsters they face. The challenge is this: hunt a monster, and each other, and the one to defeat all the rest gets the stone. Easy, right? Definitely not, but there are fun team ups and reveals along the way. I thought this had everything and was vastly different from anything I’ve ever seen from Marvel. Seriously, if you’re not a usual fan, still give this a try.

Happy Death Day – Seems fitting that my sister and I re-watched this again on our birthday. Tree is your typical college “it” girl, who’s kind of a bitch to boot. Life seems normal until she’s felt like she’s been living the same day, her birthday, over and over again. She needs to figure out who’s killing her before she runs out of lives. This is a fun and thrilling take on Groundhog’s Day, and if you haven’t seen this yet, you must!

Ready or Not – One of the best horror films I’ve seen out there and I implore you all to watch it, too. Grace has just married into the famous game dynasty De Lomas family. As tradition goes, on the wedding night, the new family member must play a game that’s chosen at random. Grace has the unfortunate luck of choosing Hide and Seek, which means the rest of the family has until dawn to find and kill Grace otherwise the whole family dies. Or so legend has it. Either way, things turn dark and gruesome pretty quickly, but not with out a healthy dose of humor along the way. This movie is great fun!
