I suppose it comes as no surprise that I’ve already read the next novel in Howard Michael Gould’s Charlie Waldo series. Below the Line offered up a similar mix of intricate crime in sunny LA as its predecessor.

Book Review: None of this Rocks by Joe Trohman
You are reading that author’s name correctly. None of this Rocks is a memoir penned by Fall Out Boy guitarist, Joe Trohman. I for one, would have never guessed someone from one of my favorite bands would ever write something so personal. It was quite eye-opening.

After watching the film adaptation of Howard Michael Gould’s novel, Last Looks, a few weeks ago, I just couldn’t resist seeing how close they came to source material. Turns out, pretty darn good!

Don’t ask me why I let at least four years pass between reading the second novel of Lev Grossman’s trilogy and the final installment, The Magician’s Land. Especially don’t ask me why I bought the book two years ago and just let it sit there on my shelf. I have no logical reasons.

While I have not seen Betty Gilpin in a lot of things over the years (sorry GLOW, I’m just not there yet), it’s her interviews about the projects that prompted me to seek out her collection of essays. Seriously, if you have not watched a single one of her interviews before, do it. She’s hilarious, and even though the collection of essays goes to some dark places, having heard her speak before really helped me get into her headspace and really hear her telling these stories.

Full disclosure, the only reason I even picked up this novel, Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll, was because I saw the Netflix trailer and was intrigued by its mystery. That’s sad that Netflix movies are what’s driving my reading choices, but when People magazine is the only source for “new hits,” I suppose I shouldn’t be that surprised.
