I don’t want to come out of the gate and say that this book was misleading, because really it wasn’t. It’s just that the blurb provided seemed to exclude a very key character that helped drive a lot of the plot of this thriller. Regardless, The Swap by Robyn Harding was at times wonderful and at other times a bit cheesy, but overall, it was a fun read that could perhaps be saved for your time on the beach.

Movies in Review
I think it will be hard to beat the amount of movies that I did in January (thank you, Sundance), but that does not mean what I’m watching isn’t of quality and that’s all that really matters. While a good chunk of these are new, I did swing back to one of my favorites from 2020. I also managed to get the last best picture nominee in over the weekend! Let’s take a look, shall we?

For a debut novel, Abigail Dean sure packs an impressive punch with Girl A! This book is equal parts devastating and thrilling, and she alludes to just enough that at least my morbid curiosity was sated. This story is something that could have very easily been ripped from the headlines and might scarily be someone’s future, but for now it is just fiction (and good fiction at that!).

I let you all down last week! Although, I promise you, I did in fact watch movies. Just not as many as I have been cranking out recently. With that in mind, I’ve got last week’s films below, as well as the ones that made the cut this week. Because voting for the Independent Spirit Awards will start in just a couple weeks, I’ve been sent screeners for a lot of the nominees, and while I’ve seen most of them, there are still a small handful I’ve been wanting to watch. Now’s my chance!

Thank the lord for some awards shows coming into my life again! Coming off the heels of the earliest awards season in history last year, it feels like an eternity has passed before this one even began. But, and I’m sure many will agree with me, the Globes decided to start the official season off with chaos, and I was somewhat alright with it. Here’s my take on the big winners of the night along with all the shocking “upsets.”

You know, for still being in the throws of a pandemic, there are still lots of new movies coming out (that you can watch in the comfort of your own home, of course). I for one, am taking advantage of all of these new releases when I can!

I’ve been really trying to get some reading in this week, with success! Also, these are quite different reads, but neither less entertaining than the other.

I gave myself a long weekend, so that means a bunch of movies! While the weekend’s viewings started out light and fun, they eventually morphed into a more serious territory, which I really enjoyed! To be frank, none of these movies were bad, and there was one that rose above the rest, but you can’t go wrong adding any of these titles to your future watch-list.

Ah, back to normal viewing levels this weekend after last week’s insanely busy slate full of Sundance Film Festival entries. Actually, I’d consider this a pretty low count! And truth be told, none of these were real winners despite the hype for at least one of them.

Love the reliability of network television in that I get new episodes every week. Yes, it’s nice that certain streaming services dump all of their content at once, but sometimes you never know when you’re going to see that next season (here’s looking at you, Special!). Network television reliably airs weekly in the spring and fall, with a winter break. I love it. Anyways, here’s what happened this week in drama.
