Just when I thought his books couldn’t get any better, Riley Sager goes ahead and publishes this wonder, Survive the Night! Of his five novels, this one cemented itself as my favorite within the first chapter! It’s a thriller, takes place in the year I was born, the lead character is headed back to her hometown which is dangerously close to where I’m from, and she’s obsessed with movies!

Film Independent Spirit Awards
It’s getting down to the wire folks! Usually, the Film Independent Spirit Awards takes place the afternoon before the Oscars, but in this unprecedented time of a pandemic, they switched their usual plan of attack by airing in a prime time slot during the week (a Thursday to be exact). Hey, I don’t care when they air, I promise I’ll be there to watch it. Normally, I would not be catching the Spirit Awards until after the fact, but this year, yours truly was a voting member, so I had to tune in!

Another new awards ceremony format entered the fold, as the SAG awards were also held at home. In fact, unlike most of the other that have tried a loose hybrid, the SAG awards were basically all from Zoom. No one interacted with anyone really. Thank the lord for some awards shows coming into my life again! Coming off the heels of the earliest awards season in history last year, it feels like an eternity has passed before this one even began. Wow! What a way to start off the 2020 awards season! I don’t feel that I’m alone in this, but there were some serious surprise wins at the Golden Globes last night, and I’m ready to unpack it all. Winners, snubs, and all things cool and strange.

Nostalgia came back for the weekend with Zombieland: Double Tap. It’s like ten years never even passed (except for maybe Abigail Breslin) on this quest to survive hoards of zombies.

Maybe seeing two movies back to back swayed my opinion here, but one movie I saw this weekend was definitely a winner, while the other just sort of left me feeling nothing. I don’t know that I had high hopes for either, but I was certainly looking forward to seeing both. I don’t feel that time was wasted, but maybe could have been spent watching a different film.

This past Monday, the pre-taped MTV Movie & TV Awards aired, and it was a pretty decent time. Sure, there were some cringe-worthy moments, but would it be MTV if there weren’t any? Since adding television in the same categories as movies a few years back, the categories just seem like they’re missing quality performances, but this is all about what the fans like, so I suppose I can’t be too critical. Either way, there seemed to be a nice mix of winners between the two mediums.
