The Morning Show Review

Alright, I have finally caved and subscribed to Apple+ in order to watch the last series I wanted to get to before the Emmys air this Sunday, The Morning Show. Look, when this show first got announced, I dug into my hipster way and refused to watch because of some of the cast. Yes, I am a big fan of Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass, but Jennifer Aniston and Resse Witherspoon are just slightly overrated in my opinion and that was enough to turn me off initially. That coupled with all the hype around the show also turned me off. Sometimes excitement about a show gets me excited about it, but sometimes it has the opposite effect on me. Go figure. Regardless of how I felt then, though, I really, really enjoyed The Morning Show and I’m glad I finally gave it a viewing!

The Boys – Season 2, Episode 4

Alright, just starting this off by saying there will be SPOILERS about the fourth episode of The Boys‘ second season. There. You’ve been warned. I also wanted to let you all know that you technically don’t have to wait until Friday to watch the new episodes! Both this week and last, these gems were available on Thursday night, and not at midnight – several hours beforehand! So be impatient like me and get the up and up on everyone else.

Unbelievable Miniseries Review

This is going to sound tired, I’m sure (especially since it’s been out for almost a year), but Unbelievable was unbelievable! Unbelievably good that it! Yes, you can take that corny admission for what it’s worth, but I’m not joking. Following the true story of two cops who try to take down a Washington State and Colorado serial rapist, this story was gripping! At this point I feel that the show has been on Netflix long enough that if you haven’t watched it yet you might not ever (excluding me, of course), so prepare yourself for spoilers!

The Alienist: Angel of Darkness Season Finale

Welp, the final two episodes of The Alienist: Angel of Darkness aired, and I’ve come away from it wholeheartedly disappointed. It honestly seemed like such a mess that I’m surprised anyone actually liked it. I know that I kept trying to trick myself this past month into thinking that it was still good despite the GLARING differences from the book, but I will tolerate it no longer. And that’s all because of the trash fire that was the final two episodes.

The Alienist Episodes 3 & 4

As I said last week, while the scenes are extraordinary and the acting is superb in The Alienist: The Angel of Darkness, I could kick myself for reading the book first! It is clear that I would be enjoying this second season so much more if I’d followed my own rules. Even though they are different, the book is the source material, and therefore it is “law.” So if I’d only found myself watching this with no background, I know I would be enjoying it so much more!

Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story Review

Last year after watching Dirty John, I was under the impression that this well crafted dramatization of a real-life con artist and killer was going to be a limited series, and it had run its course. Garnering a handful of well-deserved nominations (Connie Britton was fabulous), I figured it was a job well done and a nice closing of a chapter. But I was wrong! Turns out they are going to possibly take many Lifetime-esque stories and expand them into series that are a little more polished than that network usually provides. Although, similar to You, Dirty John did undergo a network change from Bravo to USA, which was only mildly confusing. I also think the creators of this show didn’t think there’d be another season, because they kept the show’s original name then tacked on the new twisted tale’s tagline. Strange, but not unheard of I suppose. But I do think that gives it more of a Lifetime feel.

The Alienist: Angel of Darkness – Season Primere

As I just wrote about the book, the second season of The Alienist, is finally gracing our televisions after almost two years. This season, based off of Caleb Carr’s novel, is being called The Alienist: The Angel of Darkness, and is to follow the events detailed in that book. Look, after a little over a year I was getting nervous that this second season was never going to happen, but I understand that with the level of detail in the show it is necessary to have an appropriate amount of time to complete. Still, I am nervous that we may not get another season after this. Too soon to tell, I suppose.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia – Season 7

Half way through their fourteen already released seasons, I am still loving the ride It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is taking me on. In fact, I find myself binging more episodes at a time then I did at the start, and that’s a good sign for any show. I can count on countless laugh out load moments, as well as shielding my eyes from something incredibly socially awkward and unacceptable.

Abandon Ship! Shows

You know, I watch a bunch of shows, and while 98% of them are satisfying (because I do some research), there are still just a few that fall through the cracks. It’s not necessarily that they are bad, but they just don’t hold my interest, which I’m sure is the case for many people. Maybe it’s because I have all this extra time not spent at the movie theater this year, but I’ve found a few shows that literally pained me to watch, so I just decided to…stop.
