Television Round-Up

This week in television, for me at least, saw two season finales, a season premiere, and some great episodes all around! See below for my brief takes on all!

Splitting Up Together – This season finale saw Lena dealing with the new baby in Martin’s life, and some serious bonding between Lena and once hated Lisa Apple. Also in the episode, we saw Gene and Sugar Beard go at it for Maya’s attention.

Drunk History – Femme Fatales with some great guest stars and drunk celebrity story tellers. Sugar Lynn Beard talked about Mata Hari (Vanessa Hudgens), while Jane Levy and Mae Whitman talked about Murderess Row (starring Minka Kelly, Milan Akerman, and Lake Bell). Hilarity!

Miracle Workers – This week Daniel Radcliffe and the gang (just Geraldine), recruit God’s (Steve Buscemi) assistant (Karan Soni) to help them get their kiss couple back on track in order to stop the world from exploding! There is also a multi-scene gag about poop that will have you both cringing and laughing uncontrollably! I did anyway.

Shadowhunters – Season 3B premiere and I couldn’t be happier! I have waited nine long months for the second half and series ending 12 episodes, and the wait was worth it! Clary, assumed dead, wakes with her demon brother Jonathan, Jace is reeling with guilt over Clary’s death, Magnus is trying to adjust to life with no powers and Alec is trying to help him do that, while Simon is looking to get the destructive Mark of Cain off of his forehead before he kills any more people! Whew!

Roswell, New Mexico – After two weeks off and learning that Isobel killed Rosa, we went back in time with the cast to see what happened in the days leading up to her death. We also get to see why Max has been stuck on Liz all this time, and the start of Michael and Alex’s relationship. Such a great episode!

Gotham – This week saw the return of Penguin’s right hand man, Penn, but he comes wielding a dummy hellbent on killing him! Luckily Edward has is friend’s back (Nygmobblepot is now canon!, as the kids say). There is also the fact that a deranged woman from Bullock’s past is killing old cops. Jim gets to the bottom of it, but not before roughing up a pregnant Barbara and shaking Bullock to his core. This creates some tension between the two, so I’m interested in what this week has in store.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine – Aside from a surprisingly subdued sexual harassment themed episode, which was a nice change of pace for the show, and very welcome considering Terry Crews’ real life bravery inspiring the episode, we also learned outside of the show that it got renewed for a seventh season! Nine Nine!

Will & Grace – Ah, the return of Matt Bomer! And Molly Shannon! After Jack makes fun of Will for not having a date for his wedding, he reaches back out to news hunk McCoy Whitman and peels back some layers of that onion (in the most hilarious way possible). In a last ditch effort to get some votes, Grace has Karen do some bidding only to have that back-fire with Val up to her old crazy, antics.

How to Get Away With Murder – For maybe the first time since this show aired, the season finale presented more questions and cliffhangers than answers! We find out for sure that Millstone had nothing to do with Nate Sr.’s murder but Laurel’s brother and the governor were behind it. After framing Annalise and Tegan’s boss for the hit, he is poisoned in his office. Meanwhile, Laurel is taken right out from under Annalise’s nose, along with Laurel’s son Christopher! We better get a freaking sixth season!

SNL – Host John Mulaney, back after not even a full year from his turn in 2018, killed it! He’s one of my all-time favorite comedians, so listening to his stand-up for an opening monologue was fantastic! Another stand-out sketch included many musical numbers set to a New York bodega. Enjoy.
