For a show that only produced 40 episodes, it’s kind of crazy that it took seven years for them all to come out. With that, I am also kind of sad that The Boys is over.
However, I will still be able to get my fix with a new spin-off series going back in time and focusing on Soldier Boy’s life back in his hayday. Sadly, Gen V didn’t get picked up for another season, so it might be the end of the road for those characters. At least in this universe. If creator Eric Kripke has shown us anything, it’s that he’s loyal to his actors. So I think future projects will be showing a lot of familar faces on screen. Heck, so many Supernatural actors strolled through The Boys, both briefly and very importantly!
Anyway, given that so much time has been passing between these last few seasons, I definitely needed a refresher on what was happening. Starlight is a wanted fugitive for gonig against Vought and Homelander, Butcher is a vile supe now, and The Boys are still actively trying to kill Homelander. In present day, a year out from the last season, Homelander is now the president with Ashley as his VP, and he’s bringing back Nazi Germany “prison camps.” What I love most about this series is how obviously it parallels to real life. I mean, if Homelander isn’t Donald Trump (aka new Hilter) then I don’t know what people are seeing instead. I did learn though that it must have been extremely obvious this season, because MAGA people were upset to learn they were being mocked. Geez.
Sister Sage is still helping out Homelander a lot, but it’s clearer that she has her own angle, but she’s really calculating the path to get there. Everyone is afraid of Homelander, and he’s jsut at a loss for his lack of love. At the end of the day, Homelander still has the mentality of a toddler. He just wants attention and love. I guess sad for him that his dad, Soldier Boy, isn’t lining up to give it to him either. In fact, for almost the whole season he verbalizes how much he hates Homelander. Maybe that’s a jealousy thing, or just flat out rejection. Both seem logical. In order to finally get what he wants though, he has a vision that tells him he needs to be the American people’s new god. Yikes.
Meanwhile, The Boys are working hard on perfecting the formula that kills all supes. Of course, Homelander is the primary target, but it’s becoming more and more obvious that Kimiko, Starlight, and Butcher won’t be coming out smelling like daisies either. When it’s uncovered that the original V can make supes immortal, Kimiko and Annie have a real heart to heart about their future, but are also working to find it first before Homelander gets his hands on it. I will say, the last couple of episodes really surprised me in ways I didn’t see the story going. It honestly made sense to me, and I do think things ended as they should. I can only hope that the same is true for our current reality someday, too. All in all, The Boys was a really fun jounrey, and I’m glad I stuck around to the end of it.
