Weekend Movie Review

I’ll be honest, this is the lightest batch of movies I’ve watched over a weekend in quite some time. And what I did watch wasn’t super fulfilling either. But, let’s talk about them.

Private Property – This movie reconfirms why my friend and I never let my sister pick the movies we watch. She primarily lives off of Lifetime movies, so I should have known that Private Property was going to be a bomb…and it was. Even my sister thought this was terrible. What makes me sad though is that the cast was decent! In this “Mrs. Carlyle” is an aspiring actress who spends most days alone in a lush house provided by her producer husband. She’s bored and unfulfilled, but is intrigued when a young, new gardener, Ben, shows up at her house. It’s clear to me that he’s a con man, but she falls for his creepy moves. We see the first half of the film from her perspective, then it shifts to Ben’s. It all ends bloody, but in a ridiculous way, and the dialogue is so bad it’s laughable. Truly, we all still aren’t sure if the absurdity of this movie was intentional or not. Please spare yourself and do not watch this.

Senior Year – I mean, a Rebel Wilson comedy streaming on Netflix?? Obviously I was going to watch this. And you know what, while it wasn’t great by any means, it was pleasant. It’s kind of exactly what I was expecting, so therefore, I was pleased with the result. Back in 2002, after spending some time as a “loser,” Stephanie decides she’s going to be popular, and she is! Part of how she acts made me want to slap her, but she was still friends with Seth and Martha. Anyway, what sets the whole premise of this movie off is that fellow popular girl, Tiffany, does not want prom queen taken away from her so she sabotages a cheerleading stunt at the pep rally that leaves Stephanie in a coma for 20 years. When she wakes up, she wants to redo her senior year and finally win prom queen. Of course, it’s hilarious to watch her reconcile how much things have changed since 2002, but she also gets to do some soul-searching along the way. I’d recommend to check it out if you want something light.
