Workaholics Season 3

I feel like I’ve grown to love Workaholics much sooner than I did for the last long-running comedy I watched, but I suppose it’s easier to relate to these guys because they are in their 20s and in an office setting. I mean….that’s probably all I can relate to because their personal lives are a tornado and that’s just not me, but their antics make for some amazing comedy. Most of the scenes that have me laughing the hardest are completely unexpected and it elicits a surprised burst of laughter from me. Kudos to them because I feel like that’s hard to do!

The third season of this “workplace comedy” is a little different than the prior two in that it’s got 20 episodes – yay! I feel like some shows suffer from extended episode orders, but not these guys. In my opinion, every episode was strong, but I’m sure they probably felt more in their stride with two prior seasons under their belts. Aside from the main cast of characters featured in the first two seasons, a new background character named Jet Set got some more screen time this season. He just rounds out that herd of weirdos with Montez at the helm so well.

Some of the episodes this season were really creative, specifically the season opener and the finale. In the opening episode of season three, “The Business Trip,” he guys are preparing their house for a night of dropping acid until Anders gets chosen to accompany Alice at a conference. Of course Adam, Blake, and Karl still make those acid trip plans a reality when they follow Anders there! A moment that had me in stitches in that episode involved a snake, and that’s all I’ll say about that. Equally as creative and somewhat ambitious is the season finale episode entitled, “The Future is Gnar.” In it, Alice introduces the team to an automated calling system which sends Blake’s imagination soaring to a dystopian future where cyborgs have taken over. Again, a “probe” is involved and it is both disgusting and hysterical.

Aside from those two creative outings, I really enjoyed “Real Time” where the guys have to beat Alice to work to delete incriminating voicemails off her phone. Only thing is, they are too drunk to drive there, so obviously hilarity ensues. Another standout episode for me was “Flashback in the Day,” where it shows how the guys all met in college. Their looks are just so awful and it’s wonderful. Like I said before, the whole season was great, but these are the episodes that really stood out in my mind.

After finishing this season, I am so disappointed in myself for not watching this show while it aired (story of my life, right?). Although, I think since I’ve been in the working world for awhile now, I probably appreciate more than I would have back when it first premiered. Anyways, I can’t wait for the hilarity that is likely to ensue next!
