I am positively thrilled with how little I had to wait for a new season of XO, Kitty to air on Netflix!
Is the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before universe a strong and passionate one? I think yes. But, I do think the immense popularity of K-Pop Demon Hunters is really propelling any Korean content into the forefront. So Netflix would had to have been stupid to delay this more. They must strike while the iron is hot! I also really hope this means it will get another season announced soon. But anyway, we left off with Kitty finally settling in on who she really likes out of the many, many possibilities there were last season.
We see her getting ready to invite herself along to Minho’s summer of touring with his brother and father. And she does, kind of, before realizing that sounds absolutely crazy. Instead, they settle on a super cute kiss and a vow to pick up where they left off in three months. Kitty instead spends that summer with Lara Jean in New York City! What I didn’t like about Lara Jean popping up was that she came across one thousand percent differently than she did in the films, and that she and Peter weren’t really together at the moment. In fairness, people can change over time, and Peter is also working on the other side of the country. But, it gave Kitty time to really dream about her future in NYC, and also become increasingly jealous and insecure about where her and Minhon stand.
However, Minho pretty quickly dispels her worries once they finally reunite on campus. In fact, he continues to extinguish her doubts that wave up several times over the course of the season. I get where Kitty is coming from. They are both from completely different tax brackets and time zones, and I’m sure she kind of can’t believe that this might be the real thing. Also, Minho has a bit of a playboy past that isn’t being helped by his time in the spotlight as Eunice’s manager. That leaves him super busy and a bit distracted, not lending enough time to assure Kitty that he’s in it for the long haul. I think in an effort to try and make sure it lasts, Kitty even contemplates attending university in Seoul.
I think you’d be foolish to assume there isn’t a happy ending here, but I really appreciate the twists and turns it took to get there. In my opinion, they were all really valid ones, and as most shows showcase, relationships are all about communication. Speaking of communication, Q gets himself in a pickle with his happy relationship with Jin thanks to an old roommate and former secret flame showing back up for the new semester. And likewise, it’s clear that there are still harbored feelings between Yuri and Julianna that take pretty much the whole season to simmer. Then there is poor, sweet Dae, who I still think is getting ufairly gypped of screentime, and his late season scare – it almost made my jaw drop, y’all! Even Kitty’s cousin gets a super sweet romance of her own.
I absolutely loved this season just as much as the other two, and with one semester left for these characters, I am hopeful that we will be treated to at least one final season. Please let it be so, Netflix! Anyway, if you want a cute, fun watch, just like the movies this show spawned from, then for goodness sake, go watch it already!
